In Lawrence, Indiana they are playing the what if game. It’s a hard game.
Second-guessing.
Retracing steps -so to speak.
On Indianapolis’s east side is Lawrence Central High, in March it hosted an early round of the Indiana High School boys basketball tournament. Nearly 3000 fans packed into the gym.
Now, weeks later. As outlined in the Indianapolis Star newspaper.. Five people…each and every one of themwere at the semi-final game …they have since died- all had Covid-19.
Just as Indiana was  dipping its toe in the corona virus waters
Schools like Lawrence Central were debating what to do.
This as Indiana’s first confirmed case was coming to light… less than five miles up the around at a nearby hospital. One of those who died as an assistant  coach.
In addition to the deaths, at least a dozen- including other coaches and their family members contracted the virus
They tested positive or experienced symptoms consistent with the virus. No one is saying that any of the deceased contracted the illness at those games….but think, the handshakes, the five fives — But it’s not a logical stretch to wonder.

Coupled with the truth, you can have a virus and not know it. It doesn’t always show its face, in the form of symptoms.  I know I was sick. I know I was coughing, I know had just about every other symptom listed. I’ll never know.

I know this… there were a lot of people at those games. And can’t imagine what would have happened if we let it go much further.

It’s not good. We lost so much, so much more then revenue already. Jobs, stability, peace of mind, friends, parents, children, high school careers and for students a chance to so say goodbye to classmates through graduation events and parties.

We’ll never know the full extent, but fortunately, there was enough courage from all levels – we won’t know how bad it could have been…
